Six years ago, I transitioned from journalism to educational publishing. I trained with a group of talented editors, led by industry veteran Peder Jones, who specialize in developing and writing language
arts textbooks for publishers like Harcourt School Publishers and Houghton
Mifflin.
The books we worked on are found in the backpacks of tens of thousands of students across the country.
Then two years ago, I launched my own freelance business. I continue to work on textbooks and assessment materials for elementary and high school students. But I also develop educational content for adults, working with companies like Dictionary.com where the blog I co-wrote attracts 20,000 daily visits. I've also partnered with young companies like Toymato to produce interactive programs that hone in on relevant issues impacting students’ daily lives, like where their food comes from and where their trash goes to.
I work out of my home office in sunny Oakland, California, where I live with my partner and our beautiful son.

I partnered with Toymato to research, develop, and write the Toymato Green Living Curriculum and After School Program, and the Eco Career Readers.
